It is always great to hear from the readers. I can’t believe in the 15 months that I have been posting this series that I have gotten to know and meet so many of you guys. I am very thankful!! Chapter 80 Jake’s position still hasn’t been replaced at work. Jim is down to a few applicants, he says the young ones just aren’t cutting it and how he got lucky with Zachary. We are leaving Friday right after work for the airport. We are taking Zachary’s Explorer to Hartford. Mario came by after lunch to pick up our gym bags and lunch packs and to give us something to bring to Dan, Stephen and Maria were with him and he was excited to say goodbye to us. The fight was at 5:30 and took off on time and was getting our luggage in Toronto at 6:50. Dan wasn’t at the airport Zachary didn’t think he would be. We grabbed a taxi to our hotel. Geez it was a Hyatt Regency and our room was extraordinary to be honest I think Zachary would have liked to stay in the room for two days. As we were unpacking Dan called Zachary and asked if we like to meet for dinner. I told him to go by himself to spend time alone with him and to make plans for breakfast with the three of us. Dan told him they were going to eat right there in the restaurant he made reservations for 7:30. I told him to go as he was he was dressed in shorts and a tee, there was no dress code just get rid of the work boots and socks. I told him I would do take out or eat at the lounge. The room was big with a great view of the city. I had to give it to Dan he got a room with one king bed. I also told Zachary to stay out as late as he wanted to enjoy all of it with Dan. I went down to the lounge in my work clothes also and ordered a Turkey BLT and brought it back to the room with a couple of waters. While I was eating looking out over the city Stephen called me. He isn’t including her this weekend and made it clear to me that it wasn’t because he was embarrassed he doesn’t want her to get the impression that it is a serious thing. They haven’t even slept together yet.’ I said ‘Good for him.’ Well our flight is at 9:00 Sunday morning. We should be there by 7:00 so we can do whatever you want tomorrow night.’ Zachary says ‘Let’s play it by ear. I think I might just want to stay in this room is almost as nice as the ‘Plaza’ I looked out the window the view is awesome. Oh my Dad says to go to the breakfast buffet here it is good and also the fitness center so we can go before breakfast.’ I told him I already checked it out it is sufficient enough for us to get a good workout. It wasn’t long before we both fell asleep. We got to the fitness center by 6:30 and had a great workout showered there and went up to our room and fooled around. Zachary had an egg benedict, waffles, bacon, French toast, and home fries a bran muffin with a couple of glasses of orange juice. Zachary kept nudging me under the table and whispered ‘Jared she is into you she thinks we are really a father and son.’ She did tell me that they were open at 6am seven days a week so if we got up early we could have breakfast before we went to the airport. We walked around the hotel for an hour or so inside and out to digest the breakfast. We met around noon and he took us to his work and gave us a fast tour of the place as far as what he could show us. We went to a huge park and walked around, Zachary was set on getting his dad some clothes so we went to a few stores near downtown. He made Dan spend a few dollars on what he would need to get him through the summer and into the fall. Dan was like me had no clue what was what and we both laughed. Zachary also told him when you come home for Thanksgiving I will get you your winter clothes if not before.’ Dan smiled and agreed I think he was happy that his son showed an interest. We had a late lunch at an Italian restaurant that Dan liked. Dan said ‘It is the closest thing to home but don’t tell your Grandmother that.’ We had a good lunch and talk we were in the restaurant almost 2 hours they do like Dan there. While Zachary was in the men’s room Dan says ‘Jared I was against this relationship with my son but I see how happy he is and apologize for my misplaced judgement.’ I replied ‘Dan if it was my son or daughter I would have felt the same and to be honest as much as I love him I still can’t understand it at times.’ Dan said ‘As a research tech I can honestly say some things are left up to fate.’ We both laughed as Zachary was returning and wanted to know what was is the joke. I got up to use the bathroom and said ‘Your Dad will explain. After lunch which Dan insisted on paying for we parted ways. I asked Dan to join us for dinner or even to have dinner with Zachary alone. He thanked me but had important work to catch up before tomorrow and hoped we understood. There was no hostility from Zachary and we said our goodbyes. I told him I still had the two muffins from and we should order a sandwich in case we get hungry later. I didn’t think we would be able to make it to the buffet for breakfast tomorrow. I would like to get up a get a small workout in before we leave for the airport. I got up and told him I was going to get a coffee, some water and another turkey club sandwich that he would like it. He got up and came with me. When we got back to the room we sat and looked at the city, Toronto had a quite a night life. I told him I was getting up at 4:30 to go workout he didn’t have to but I was going to take advantage of the gym and shower here. Zachary says he will see how he feels in the morning. He picked at half the sandwich and I ate some fruit I had picked up while we were out. I figured maybe the muffins we can take with us. I was surprised that he came right back. Maria had washed our clothes and wanted us over there for lunch. It was nothing big basically chicken in the oven with rosemary and small potatoes and of course a big salad. I agreed knowing she wanted to know all about her son. We had about an hour till we had to be there. I went out to check the garden everything was perking along fine. The boys had kept up with the weeding and I checked the chemicals in the pool they were good. Maria asked ‘What are you two doing tomorrow?’ Zachary says ‘I have to catch up on a lot of my chores.’ I say ‘Andrea is having us and Sr.’s mom for a small cookout. Everyone has work Tuesday.’ Maria says ‘Anthony’s wife Becky came over with Andrea yesterday to look at my canning jars and what she should buy. As Maria and Zachary were cleaning up Mario was telling me Stephen and DJ are going to always have gardens they have taken to it naturally. Just then there was a knock at the back door and Maria yells ‘Come in.’ Of course it was Stephen he looked shocked and ran to me and hugged me and said ‘Papa you are home I missed you and Zachary.’ Then he went to Zachary and hugged him. Maria asked ‘Did you eat lunch?’ Stephen says ‘I had a late breakfast.’ She then made a plate with a breast and a few potatoes. He scoffed it right down and she asked if he wanted more and he shook his head no. Stephen says ‘You know Noni I don’t know who is the better cook you or my Mom or my Papa. But you make the best desserts.’ Maria says ‘Thank you Stephen’ and went back to cleaning. DJ, Eric ,and Stuart went down to do yard work and earn some cash at Nana’s and today I slept late had breakfast then I had to go shopping with my Mom and Dad.’ I asked ‘What have Eric and Stuart been doing?’ Stephen answered ‘They went swimming with us on Friday but have been fooling around with that movie stuff you gave them.’ Zachary asked ‘You like ‘I Love Lucy?’ Stephen says ‘Yeah DJ bought me a dvd with a few shows on it. He said he watched it all the time when he was little.’ Zachary says ‘I watched it too when I was little and so did your Papa.’ Stephen says ‘Really.’ Maria asks ‘Who is ready for dessert?’ Both boys answered they were ready. We ate dessert and then visited a little more then I said I had to go catch up on a few things. I told them I was going shopping in the morning was there anything that they needed. Maria said she would let me know in the morning if she thought of anything. I thanked them and left, Zachary was going to stay and visit and Stephen was coming with me. I decided to lie in my hammock and Stephen joined me and we nodded out. I woke up to find DJ on the other side of Stephen and he was sound asleep too. Zachary was standing there taking photos of us. I gave Zachary a sign to help me get up I didn’t want to disturb the other two. Zachary motioned in a second and sent the photos out to everyone. With his help I eased myself out of Stephen’s hands and he turned over and hugged DJ. My phone started binging with the photos then all the comments from the family. Andrea wants copies printed. I got two.’ Zachary says ‘Thanks’ and mouths ‘I love you.’ I said ‘We got over three hours before we have to be at the cookout what do want to do?’ Stephen says ‘I don’t care as long as I am in the sunlight.’ Zachary says ‘Swim.’ I said ‘I will go swimming once I put together the chicken salad but first why don’t you call your Mom or Dad and ask if they need help with anything for the cookout. Then your brothers can come swimming.’ Stephen called and to his dismay Sr. asked for help in setting up the table and chairs and maybe cover the trellis so we can sit under it. Zachary and he left without their shirts and while they were gone I finished my chores. They were back in less than an hour with the other three in tow. The next thing I heard was arguing I went outside and asked ‘What is going on?’ Eric and Stuart both started talking and Stephen is kind of avoiding me. Stuart says ‘The munchkin here thinks he can get away with anything because he is the youngest.’ I looked at DJ and he says ‘Papa I don’t know what is going on I was looking for Stephen’s life jacket and Zachary was checking in the garage.’ I looked at Stephen and he just stared at me and said ‘Well.’ Stephen started ‘Papa they wanted to use the sunscreen and I told them I needed it more because I was little and there isn’t that much left in this tube. Then Eric said to me by the time you and DJ get through putting it on your huugge bodies there won’t be nothing left for us. I said they didn’t need much they were like toothpicks and we were going to win the tannest contest anyway. Then Eric says we will remember that come August and you need our help at school.’ Both DJ and Zachary laughed at that. DJ says ‘Bro I think it would be smart to stay on their good sides and what is the big deal as far as the tans go? We are brothers we have to all stick together whether we are tanned or not.’ Stephen gave the tube to Stuart and says ‘You guys use it first.’ They did and there was enough for everyone. The next hour they horsed around in the pool and it was forgotten about. The three went home and Stephen went up to shower then take a short nap. The three of us headed over to Andrea’s about 1:45. Sr.’s Mom was already there and the grills were heating up. It was a good no fuss cookout everything went smooth. Mrs. Thomas (Sr.’s Mom) told us Charlie’s closing happened last week but how the owners were paying rent to Charlie they cannot get into their new house till August. She thought it was an excellent house and he got a good deal on it plus his first two months mortgage was being paid for him. She also handled the selling of his condo in Tennessee. She told everyone how Charlie told her he would be arriving July 20 and would be staying in a dorm till he can get into his house and also that his Mom was coming up in the middle of August to get him settled for two to three weeks. I was happy about that and so was Mrs. Thomas. Mrs. Thomas without wanting to say too much in front of the boys that my brother would not be making the trip. Mrs. Thomas again brought Italian pastry for dessert and an ice cream cake for the boys. Everything was cleaned up and put away and we were on our way home before seven. Stephen walked with us to help water the garden. Eric, Stuart, and DJ were going to see the fireworks with friends. Zachary asked Stephen if he wanted to go that he would take him. Stephen said ‘No.’ Then he asked if he could stay over and could I take the day off from work. I told him I couldn’t but I did talk to him about the little outburst this afternoon. DJ handled it perfectly but I also wanted to stress the part about him getting too big for tantrums and that they should all get along. Stephen says ‘I know Papa but sometimes my mind just makes me a little crazy I really like Eric and Stuart and I know they like me but DJ and I are more the same.
